Class of 2016 we have made it! It wasn’t easy but we are here.
Our new highschool, Wow, what an improvement! It’s awesome! Everything is so clean, the desks don’t wobble and annoy you, and every bathroom stall has a door on it, I’ve checked. We moved from an old, 50 year old highschool into a masterpiece of engineering with new possibilities around every corner.
After today, we too, the class of 2016, will move out of the old and straight into the new, the realm of college, the realm of getting jobs, the realm of taking what we’ve worked so hard to learn and using it to make something of ourselves.
When you are facing such a massive rebuilding of your life, what should you keep in mind?
Blueprint
First you should plan ahead and draw a good blueprint, like any good engineer would do. Design yourself to be the most effective you, the best you possible. If your procrastination is causing a problem with you now, don’t include it in the blueprint for the new you. It’s a fresh start
Different Wings
On your floor plan of life make sure you build different wings so that you are balanced. Build a relationships wing, a relaxation wing, an academic wing, and a service wing to give your life meaning.
Building Materials
Use sturdy building materials. Make sure every brick in your life is sturdy. Every decision you make adds up and contributes to the person you will be. Several faulty bricks and decisions can collapse a wall or ruin a lot of hard work.
Old you is gone
You may have made mistakes you regret in high school. You are moving on, though. That old you is being demolished! I checked, the old highschool is a pile of rubbish right now. Remember and cherish the past, but create a new and greatly improved building, a new life for yourself.
Locks
Put locks on the door of your life. They put locks on the door of the new highschool for a reason. In the same way, only let those you want in to your life.
Always treat others will hospitality and serve them coffee in the morning.
Make others laugh
Always be willing to make others laugh, even if it means being silly and saying “Goooood morning Northmont”
Plan for expansion
Always plan for expansion in your life. Build extra classrooms and space anticipating the growth that will come. If your goals are too small then you won’t have any room to expand.
One day, when you look back at the life you built, the choices you made and bricks you laid, make sure that your “achievement” meant something.
